For Adnight 2022, we collaborated with Reaktor to create Four Seasons, an immersive audiovisual installation exploring the emotional rhythm of seasonal change. The ambition was to create an experience that felt both technically ambitious and deeply human, something that sat between digital experimentation and collective emotional release.

The installation needed to stand out within a crowded cultural programme, while remaining true to Reaktor’s creative ethos. It had to balance precision and craft with atmosphere and feeling, inviting visitors to slow down, immerse themselves, and experience something shared.

Working closely with Reaktor and sound artist Kidwho, we developed a concept rooted in transition, movement, and rhythm. Rather than telling a literal story, the work focused on sensation. Each season was treated as a distinct emotional state, expressed through light, motion, texture, and sound.

Four Seasons took shape as a six-minute, fully immersive installation housed in Reaktor’s basement space. A generative kaleidoscope system formed the visual core, combining hand-drawn textures with digital animation. The visuals evolved across four distinct identities, each representing a season, shifting in tone, colour, and intensity.

The installation was projection-mapped across four walls using five 4K projectors, driven by a custom GPU setup and built in TouchDesigner. Custom shaders and triggers ensured image transitions were precisely synchronised with audio cues, creating a seamless audiovisual flow.

The soundscape, composed by Kidwho, blended analogue and digital techniques. Looping cassette tapes, modular synthesis, and vintage digital keyboards were layered with subtle environmental foley to create rich, evolving atmospheres. The sound guided the experience without becoming illustrative, reinforcing mood rather than narrative.
